Founded in 2003 in the Finger Lakes region of western New York, All About Books is a second-generation family-owned and operated children’s book company that specializes in distributing high-quality affordable children’s books and collections to nonprofit literacy organizations in the United States. All About Books has always emphasized that outstanding people are the key to our success. This Employee Handbook contains information about the employment policies and practices of All About Books, LLC. (referred to in this Employee Handbook as "All About Books" or "Company"). These policies reflect the Company's values, and we expect each employee to read this Employee Handbook carefully as it is a valuable reference for helping each employee understand their job and their employment with All About Books. This Employee Handbook supersedes all previously issued Employee Handbooks. Except for the policy of at-will employment, All About Books reserves the right to revise, delete, and add to the provisions of this Employee Handbook. All such revisions, deletions or additions must be in writing. No oral statements or representations can change the provisions of this Employee Handbook. This Employee Handbook is not a contract and does not constitute an express or implied contract guaranteeing continued employment for any employee. No manager or supervisor has any authority to enter into a contract of employment - express or implied - that changes or alters the at-will relationship. Only the President has the authority to enter into an agreement that alters the at-will employment relationship, and any such agreement must be in writing and signed by the President. Not all of the Company's policies and procedures are set forth in this Employee Handbook. We have summarized only some of the more important ones. If an employee has any questions or concerns about this Employee Handbook or any other policy or procedure, they should ask their supervisor or Human Resources. Nothing in this Employee Handbook or in any other document or policy is intended to violate any local, state, or federal law. Nothing in this Employee Handbook is intended to limit any concerted activities by employees relating to their wages, hours or working conditions, including the right to communicate with others concerning wages, hours, benefits and other terms or conditions of employment; to self-organize, form, join or assist labor organizations; to bargain collectively through representatives of the employees' choosing; to engage in other concerted activities for the purpose of collective bargaining or other mutual aid or protection; or to refrain from engaging in such activities, or any other conduct protected by Section 7 of the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA). All About Books has established workplace policies and procedures that comply with federal, state, and local laws. In furtherance of this, employees will receive a state-specific supplement that provides information and policies applicable to employees working in that state. If you are located outside the state of New York, you will receive a supplement to this Employee Handbook containing specific provisions applicable to your location. In the event a state policy differs from the main Employee Handbook or is more generous than those found in the main Employee Handbook, the policies in the applicable state addendum will apply.
Employment with All About Books is on an at-will basis unless state law provides otherwise. This means that employment may be terminated for any or no reason, with or without cause or notice at any time by the employee or by the Company. While the Company expects employees to follow the policies and procedures in this Handbook, it does not constitute or contain a contract or promise of employment, expressed or implied, for any specific duration. Nothing in this Handbook or any oral statement will limit the right to terminate the at-will employment relationship. This at-will employment policy is the sole and entire agreement between the employee and All About Books regarding the fact that employment with All About Books is at-will. No manager or supervisor has any authority to enter into a contract of employment - express or implied - that changes the fact that employment with the Company is at will. Only the President has the authority to enter into an agreement that alters the at-will employment relationship, and any such agreement must be in writing and signed by the President. With the exception of employment at-will, all terms, and conditions of employment with All About Books may be modified at the sole discretion of the Company with or without cause or notice at any time.
